20 years of Hellenic Federation of Friends of Museums
Benaki Museum Amphitheatre, 138 Pireos Street, 12th February, 2007

President Lila De Tsaves and the Board of Directors of the Greek Federation of Friends of Museums (GFFM) decided unanimously to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of its foundation by honoring five personalities from Greece, who, each of them separately, have already been distinguished internationally for their work. The award ceremony took place at the Benaki Museum amphitheatre (Pireos Street) under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture. The awards were given to:
1. Mr. Christos Zahopoulos,
General Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, as President of Central Archaeological Council (‘Apollo’ Award).
2. Mr. Theofanis Bobotis,
Architect, for his innovative Museum perception (Archaeological Museum of Patras, ‘Athena’ Award).
Mrs Vasso Papantoniou,
Soprano, (‘Artemis’ Award) for her appearance in the international music scene and her tireless efforts
for the creation of the new Lyric Scene and Music Academy ‘Maria Callas’.
4. Mrs Lily Venizelou
(‘Poseidon’ Award) for her contribution in the preservation of the sea environment in the Mediterranean.
5. Professor Giorgio S. Marcou (‘Hephaestus’ Award') for internationally promoting Greece
and for creating the Museum of the Hellenic Nobel Collection.
This cultural anniversary evening concluded with a concert. Finally, it should be mentioned that the father of current President of the Federation and General Secretary of WFFM Mrs Lila De Tsaves - Chronopoulou, well-known doctor Vassilis Chronopoulos, was in 1986, 20 years ago, the first to sponsor the Conference for the Foundation of the Greek Federation of Friends of Museums.
